As the CPA industry contemplates Emtech and its impacts on firms, the common knee-jerk reaction has been, what are the staff going to do?
My opinion is the future equation is about leverage. Most people see the base of the pyramid as split between staff and machine, with the staff component shrinking.
I think people should properly picture a pyramid, the base of which is a machine. Work needs to be leveraged down.
Which means the real equation is leverage. This means people at the top have to adopt technologies that allow them to transfer work, to push down, to complete the process.
When we say we want someone to do the work, but the old way. We aren’t leveraging effectively and likely are not realizing the return on our own time that we think we are.
When we decline to invest in learning the new tools, we make the decision that as the most valuable hour relative hour, our time is most important. but will never outway leverage.
